Just remember this place is for EMERGENCY services. Its going to be expensive sometimes depending on the treatment.
Been here twice, once for my 10 y/o Maltese and another for my 11 y/o Jack Russel. Maltese had a 106 temperature and was dizzy and fatigued. Took her back, put her on an IV, ran some tests, xray, etc. Took good care of her. Just went in this past weekend with my Jack Russel, got in a scrap with one of my dogs and tore her eyelid. Super kind and immediately took her back, came back later with a discounted bill less than expected.
This is a hospital and they did emergency orthopedic surgery on our yorkiepoo and we are doing follow up physical therapy sessions. The surgeon on our case and staff here are truly top notch, very caring for the patients and friendly. This place is clean, big, plenty of parking in its own lot, free coffee and hot chocolate, free secure WiFi with a provided password, and has plenty of room in the lobby including a special area set aside for cats. Five stars earned!
My two year old Pittie had a bowel blockage that kept him vomiting two days and not eating for three. He then started trembling and crying out of discomfort in the middle of the night and I rushed to VRA. He’s my first dog and it was the first time I encountered such a distress. I was so nervous but Dr. Gunther answered all my questions and addressed all of my concerns. After much testing and Q&A (I myself work in the medical field with humans so I had ALOT of questions), I opted for surgery. Visiting hours were well specified, I called during the day to check on him and Natalie, his nurse was great and she even called Dr. Bean when I visited because I had some questions. Surgery went well and more than a month later, my baby is back to himself and I could not be more thankful. Throughout the healing process, I was concerned for infection so I called VRA three different times and explained my concerns and they addressed them all. Overall, yes, it was a few thousand dollars but I thankfully have insurance so I was able to get most of it back. Medical care is expensive, especially during an emergency but what I spent was well worth it. I would have rated it 5-stars only if I had been told the Surgeon’s name and had been told a little more of the procedure because to this day, I don’t know how many stitches were put in, all I know it was at least a dozen. I would definitely recommend this place during an emergency though!
They're good people.
If you are looking for a good ophthalmologist Dr. Crumley is an excellent choice. I have been to several vets in the WMA area and Dr. Crumley was the most knowledgeable and patient with the best bedside manner and demeanor. Dr. Crumley kindly squeezed in a last minute appointment for my blind 16 year old dog due to concerns that she was rubbing and possibly damaging her eye from inflammation and did not mind staying late in the evening to exam her. He took the time to carefully explain the causes and various treatment options and did not rush the exam or push for unnecessary testing that could cause additional issues like eye ulcers. I very much appreciated that he did not write off my dog as being too old and treated her the same as he would any other patient and was willing to give a realistic outlook and options for her. I would definitely visit again in the future for any eye related issues.
This place is a joke! We were referred to this place because our local vet wasn't sure what was wrong with our 3 yr old chocolate lab. They come up with a huge list of expenses to show you. "The plan for treatment" which you have to pay up front. They did nothing more than my local vet did. Most of the tests on the plan weren't preformed at all but yes we were still charged for them. AND SHE didn't survive. Probably because they didn't even evaluate her because they didn't even know she was female after having her overnight!
