I really like this shop. I wish I lived closer. I haven't had work done by them, but buy all accessories there. Bought a helmet and gloves from them last fall. I don't recall who helped me, but they stayed after hours to make sure the helmet fit was correct, I liked the color, and it was comfortable (or at least as comfortable as a new helmet can be). I am very happy with the purchase. The price was competitive with online discount retailers, plus I got to walk out of the store with it in my hands and didn't have to wait for delivery.
I did not expect anyone to greet me, but one of the staff standing in the middle of the aisle talking to someone else stared at me as if I was from Mars. It was an awkward moment, so I smiled back and said "Good morning" to him. You know what? He turned his back on me. I had to leave the place promptly as a result.
I got the cost reduced after expressing my dissatisfaction, but it was clear, they are not honest. Go to Motorcycles of Dulles, they're terrific, they hooked me up and have been a pleasure to work with.
My friend and I are working on restoring an older V-TWIN Honda motorcycle. We were stumped by the rough idling issues and so we brought it to CYCLEMAX to have them look at it. It took them three weeks for them to look at the bike and come up with some kind of diagnosis. Every time we called the shop, we were told that it was next in the queue or that something came up making it less of a priority. At one point, Clinton (service rep) said that we brought him a "f****** jalopy to work on" and so what did we expect? This same guy told me that he could tune the carbs in the parking lot in 5 minutes. This place doesn't know how to treat it's customers. They also wanted an exorbitant amount of money to tune the carbs, replace some hoses, and the fuel petcock valve. I declined and when I came to pickup the bike, I used a larger box truck because that is all I had available to me. One of the female employees looks at the truck and says "that's a big truck for such a little motorcycle" in a sarcastic tone. Really? Is this how you win customers? There are several better motorcycle shops in the area. Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place.
I also ordered gloves from them, since their in store stock was low. I was split between two different pairs but ultimately decided to go with an older model. It was difficult to tell exactly what they would look and feel like with out seeing them and I was reassured that I didn't like them, I wouldn't have to pay for them and would receive store credit. The gloves arrived in a few days and I got a phone call letting me know as soon as they got in. I went and tried them on, but really wasn't wild about them. I asked if I could order the other gloves and they had no problem with it. A few days later the new gloves arrived. They were perfect, so I paid the difference (about $10) and was on my way. Very happy overall.
As to accessories, I am disappointed by their moderate collection.
I always have my motorcycles serviced by Heyser Cycles in Laurel, MD. They are phenomenal. Considering that I live closer to CycleMax and I need to buy a new leather jacket for winter anyway, I decided to give this place a try today. It was a very bad experience, unfortunately.
Took my one year old Zero SR here for work, was offered a trade in on it immediately. They leaked brake fluid on the plastics and told me it was always like that, but the warranty would cover it's repair. I was charged for motor commissioning (covered under warranty), annual maintenance that I didn't ask for, and troubleshooting for random shutdowns while riding (covered under warranty).
Awesome people and awesome bikes!!! Did I mention eBikes too?
